Using Digital Printing to Promote Your Business

Promoting your business may not be as hard as you first think. If well thought out, the daily running of your business can have a major impact on your marketing. Business people travel around on a day to day basis doing business. Customers also travel around and will take note of a well positioned advert, maybe on your building, on an employee, on a vehicle or by a local attraction.

There is a recession going on. Businesses can not afford to stop promoting themselves. Astute businesses will be looking for ways to market themselves at lower cost. One very effective technique is to create an offer, discount or enhanced service to promote your business to new customers and promote this using mobile advertising. Clever advertising has a call to action, for example a website or telephone number.

Digital printing is a very broad term, which covers a variety of products. The main point for business owners to bear in mind is that digital printing generally means that marketing activities can be undertaken in much smaller campaigns and at lower cost than at any other time in the past.

Magnetic Signs
Magnetic signs come in all shapes and sizes. Magnetic signs are very versatile; You can have several graphics and messages to enable you to choose different messages for different jobs.

Foamex Printing
A foamex display is like mobile exhibition stand that can be put up at any opportunity to promote your business in a useful context. This need not be restricted to work related opportunities, why not have a really eye catching board made up for your car window so that your car can promote your business while you are doing your shopping? This will not appeal to everyone but there are certain products and services for which it may be an excellent strategy.

Window Manifestation
Having an eye catching window graphic is a technique often overlooked by business owners. This is particularly the case if your business is positioned in a busy thoroughfare or junction. Window displays work in the same way that television adverts do and people who regularly pass will start to register the message given by your window manifestation in a subliminal way. This is very powerful.

The initial outlay to have a window professionally covered is not as expensive as you may think and considered over the many years that it will serve your business it can only be a great investment.

Exhibition Graphics
You may be surprised to see exhibition graphics included in a list of low cost ways to promote your business. Large exhibitions may well be an excellent forum for promoting a business but we all know that they are not a small financial commitment.

A business can create a small portable exhibition stand which can be taken to locations such as leisure centers, hotel receptions and golf clubs to create a smaller exhibition scenario at a fraction of the cost.

Everyday will give the determined business owner an opportunity to promote his business at relatively low cost utilizing fundamental day to day things that would need to be paid for anyway. Maximize your impact, utilize your assets, let your business do some marketing for you.

How to Avoid a Credit Card Charge-Off

The simplest way to avoid a credit card charge-off is to learn and understand the credit card system. Here are some tips:

Sending Credit Card Payments Through The Mail:

Some credit card companies actually require you to use their own pre-printed envelopes, but even if they do not, it is a good idea to do so in the interest of more efficient processing of your payment. Make sure you have included the billing coupon and have written clearly the amount that you are paying. Include your check, also written legibly, and remember to write your account number on the check.
When Ronald Reagan was running for President, he was asked what he was going to do to make the post office more efficient, to which he responded that he would start mailing workers workers their paychecks. Allow ample time when you send your check to the credit card company.

Change Your Credit Card Due Date Something That Is Convenient For You:

Many people find that the greatest number of their bills, such as their mortgage or car payment, are due at the first of the month. If these places a burden on your ability to pay your credit card bill that may also be due at the first of the month, a simple way to avoid this problem is to just ask your card issuer to change the due date for your monthly payment. There is no harm in the asking, and many card issuers offer this ability to change the due date of your bill as an option. One important thing to remember, though, is that it may take a couple of billing cycles before this date change is fully implemented. It is important to make sure that your bill is paid promptly when due until your change of due date becomes effective. Otherwise, you could find yourself on the wrong side of a late fee.

About Late Fees:

In the classic television detective series Columbo, which starred Peter Falk, Lieutenant Columbo always appeared to be distracted and disorganized, but in reality he was extremely focused and observant. One common scene that brought delight to fans of the show was when Columbo left a room in which he had been speaking to the murderer. He kept turning around and starting question after question with, "Oh, just one more thing …" Then he trapped the criminal. Well, the credit card companies are not Lieutenant Columbo and we consumers are certainly not murderers, but when it comes to trapping us in the fine print of their credit card agreements, it always looks like there is "just one more thing."

Make Your Credit Card Payment On or Before The Due Date:

Your monthly payment is due on whatever date of the month it says on your credit card bill. If your payment is late, the fine print of your card agreement provides for the right of the credit card company to assess a late fee, which can be as much as $ 35 for each late payment. In the past, some credit card companiesave their customers five or even ten days of grace after the due date before assessing a penalty, but that is not the situation any longer. So you send your payment with sufficient time to arrive at the card company on your bill's due date.

But, just one more thing: Some credit card companies deem your payment late if it is processed later than 1:00 pm on the day of your due date. Some of these companies do not receive and process mail until after 1:00 pm; Therefore, the real date by which your monthly payment must be received is a day earlier than the date indicated on your contract. So you need to make sure your payment gets there three days ahead of the due date. Another Note: If the envelope contains a staple, a paper clip, or a note from you, the fine print of the contract specifics that there may be a delay of up to five days in posting your payment. This may cause a late payment to be assessed on a payment that arrived at the card company prior to the due date of the bill. I'll bet Lieutenant Columbo read the fine print before sending in his payment.

Make Your Credit Card Payments On-Line:

The most efficient way to make credit card payments is to make the payment on-line if the company offers that service. You can specify the amount you want to pay, which account you want it deducted out of, and specify the date you want the payment made. By paying your cards this way, you can set the payment to be made exactly on the due date so the credit card company is not getting your money any earlier than the due date and you have the peace of mind knowing you will never be late On your payment. Just be sure to set this up at least 3 days before the payment is due, otherwise there might not be enough time to process the payment in time.

Avoid Credit Card Interest Rate Hikes:

Another problem with late payments is that they can also trigger penal interest rates as high as 29%; So, for example, instead of the 10% interest rate your card may carry, your rate will now be jacked up to 29% effective immediately. In fact, even if you are timely in your payment, credit card companies generally reserve the right to raise your rate to a penalty rate if you are late with any other payment to any of your creditors, whatsoever they may be. Just read the fine print.

Can not Make Your Credit Card Payment?

If you're struggling with making your monthly payments, before you're ever late on a payment, CALL YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY! Most companies will come up with a reduced payment plan if you're experiencing a hardship. You'll want to do this as soon as you determine that you can not make your payment, before the due date. You'll want to negotiate a payment that you can afford with your credit, then send that payment in on or before the due date so it does not affect your credit.

You'll want to be sure to get this agreement in writing and be sure to negotiate that this reduced payment WILL NOT be reported as a late payment on your credit report. Sometimes creditors will agree to a reduced payment, but they'll go ahead and report it as being 30 days late because it's less than what was contractually agreed to. If you get a letter from the credit card company agreeing to the reduced payment, along with a statement from the company that they will not report you as being late to the credit bureaus, you'll have the proof you need to send into the credit Bureaus if they do not hold up to their end of the bargain. This happens more often than not, so make sure you protect yourself.

"Settling" Your Credit Card Balance For Less Than The Full Amount:

"Settling" a credit card account basically means that you're paying less that the full balance. This technique is usually used if the account has already been charged off and can only be done if you have the money to pay them in full. If you're going to try this, you'll want to try to negotiate a "Pay for Deletion", which basically means that whatever amount the two of you agree to settle the account for; The credit card company is also agreeing to remove the account from your credit report. By doing this, the charge-off and late payments will no longer negatively affect your credit score.

10 Reasons Why People Travel

When people decide to leave the comforts of their home and venture to other locations there is usually a reason behind it. Whether the cause to travel was a last minute whimsy or had an actual purpose, it makes one think about all of the reasons why people travel. Reflect on the last time you left your location and ventured to another one. Did it have a purpose behind it? Let’s look and see if your motive to travel matched any of the one’s listed below. These are not listed in any particular order.

1. Romance- There are thousands of people who are involved in long distance relationships. At some point though, they need to see each other. For the sake of love, people will travel for hours to spend as much time as they can with the love of their life.

2. Relaxation- All work and no play is not a good thing. People need to get away from the stress of everyday life, and a nice sunny location with a beach might just be what the doctor ordered.

3. Family/ Friends -Many people have family/friends that are located in different parts of the world. They need to visit with them even if it’s for a short period of time.

4. Religion- There are places in the world that hold religious importance for many people. Religious travel is often related to a purpose such as seeing where the last pope was buried, or traveling to the town where Jesus was born.

5. Death- A relative, friend or acquaintance has passed away and travel is required to attend the funeral which is located out of town.

6. Honeymoon- You’re getting married and are going somewhere special to celebrate. This usually occurs right after the wedding, but there are many occasions where people celebrate a honeymoon years later.

7. Education-You’re getting your education somewhere other than where you live or you are going away on an educational school trip.

8. Celebration- Wedding, Anniversary, Birthday, Birth- There’s always something to celebrate and it doesn’t always happen where you live.

9. Medical/Health- Sometimes the treatment you need isn’t available in the city/town where you live. Often the best medical care is costly and requires travel to receive it.

10. Work- Job requirements might mean a fair bit of travel is involved. Even if the travel is within your own country it still has a purpose attached to it.

Overall, traveling can be a wonderful experience or it can be draining, expensive and just plain torture. Nonetheless if you need to go then embrace it for what it is, and try to make the best of it even if it wasn’t planned.

Accept Credit Cards on Your Web Site

It's a lot easier to just whip out a card and charge it, versus get the checkbook out, try to find a pen, write the check out, and heaven forbid you do not have your driver's license on you!

There are many ways you can accept credit cards online. It is not, unfortunately, as simple as it sounds. There are many factors to consider. What is your target audience? Are you shipping a product, or a downloadable product? What do you want to spend? What kind of sales volume are you expecting? Hopefully this article will help you make a more informed decision.

First of all, let's set some definitions. There are 2 main ways to accept credit cards on your website. One is through a third-party payment processor. An example of this is PayPal or 2Checkout. The payment engine is on their website, and your control over many aspects of the transaction will be limited. The other method is a payment gateway linked to a merchant account you hold. An example of this would be Authorize.net linked to your business bank account. You have complete control over how to accept payments, but there are a lot more things you have to do to ensure the quality of your visitors experience and transaction security.

Let's examine some of these methods.

First, lets compare the pros and cons of a traditional merchant account versus a third-party processor.

Merchant Accounts: Usually have monthly fees. Can be harder to get, as you have to often pass credit checks. May require some programming to get them to work with your site. Portray professionalism – your name is on the statements. Are better if you wish to accept credit cards offline – face to face or over the phone. Deposit funds within 1 to 3 days, typically Are direct accounts with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc.

Third Party Processors: Often have no monthly fees. Usually charge a flat per transaction fee plus a percentage of each transaction. Do not usually allow custom shopping experience – the customer leaves your site to pay. Often have other features built in, such as affiliate programs. Hold your money for up to a month. Are often geared towards sellingable products. Often have built in affiliate marketing programs.

I mentioned PayPal and 2Checkout earlier. Some other services are Clickbank, PayDotCom, SaleFlurry, WorldPay, iBill, Google Checkout, and many more. We'll examine a few from the above list: PayPal, 2Checkout, Clickbank, PayDotCom, and SaleFlurry, as these are services I use and am quite familiar with.

PayPal:
PayPal is a great way to accept payments for digital and tangible goods. There are quite a few shopping cart software packages that can integrate with PayPal, or you can just copy and paste a few lines of code into your site to make a "Now" button.
Advantages of PayPal – easy to use, no signup fee, widely used and they've been around for a while. The disadvantages are the fact that PayPal prefers that you will be a member to purchase someone's product or service. You do not HAVE to be, but they "urge" you to be. They also hold your money until you withdraw it. PayPal can support both digital and tangible products.

2Checkout:
2Checkout is one of my favorites. They deposit money within a few days to your bank account. Many shopping carts also integrate with 2Checkout. Their fees tend to be the highest, but they are also pretty easy to use, and I feel they are the closest to having a real merchant account without having one. 2Checkout supports both Digital and Tangible products. There is also a 49 dollar signup fee.

Clickbank:
Clickbank is a favorite among the Internet marketers. They have a built in affiliate program and a marketplace to sell your product on. They only support digital products, and you can only have one sales URL per account (although you can have many products on it). They also have a price cap on products. They pay by check every 2 weeks. There is a signup fee of 49 dollars.

PayDotCom:
PayDotCom is a newer processor, created as a competitor to Clickbank. They are similar in that they have a built in affiliate program and an online marketplace. PayDotCom could have considered a front end to PayPal, as payments are deposited into a PayPal account. There is no signup fee, unless you want to sell multiple products, and then it is a one time 29 dollar fee. They allow digital and Tangible products.

SaleFlurry:
SaleFlurry is a brand new service that just launched in July of 2006. It has an affiliate program, and integrates with PayPal as well. SaleFlurry is unique in that if you have a traditional merchant account and an account with the payment gateway Authorize.net, you can accept payments that way. Signup is free, and transaction fees are a flat 1 to 3 dollars per transaction.

Google Checkout:
I am mentioning Google Checkout because it is new, and it's from Google. Signup is free, plus you get credit toward your AdWords account if you sell product through Google Checkout. At this time, it only works with Tangible Goods. But, hopefully Google will change that soon.

I've gone over some of the more popular third party payment processors above. So, what if you want to completely integrate payments on your website? Or, you do not want to have to send the buyer to another website to pay, and then return to yours? What if you need to accept payments by phone or in person?

It's time to look at the traditional Merchant account.

A Merchant account is typically used with brick and mortar businesses. The credit card swipe terminal is the front end. When the card is swiped, the information is communicated to a payment gateway, such as Authorize.net, and then money is deposited from the sale to your bank account through the merchant account. I know, it sounds rather confusing. Merchant accounts and payment gateways do not usually come together in a neat package either. You need to talk to your bank about turning your business account into a merchant account, then set up with a payment gateway to get your terminal set up (either the physical swipe terminal like a TelXon or Verifone unit, or an online virtual terminal where you Enter the card information into a computer).

When I set up my merchant account, I was not up to speed on all the monthly costs and what I'd pay up front. Plus, at the time I had no idea how to integrate it with my website. I called quite a few places for information, but the most helpful was Charge.com. They do not charge the signup fees or virtual terminal fees that others charge. So, if a traditional merchant account is your cup of tea, Charge.com is the best place to start.

Shopping Cart Software

There are literally hundreds of different shopping cart software packages on the market. Some are free, others can run up to almost a thousand dollars. There are pros and cons to using shopping cart software to accept payments. First of all, most software of this nature can accept payments through several sources. One such package, OSCommerce, can accept payments through PayPal, 2Checkout, and Authorize.net – making it very flexible. Most Shopping Cart software packages have an "out of the box" design scheme, and it is often difficult to create a custom design To integrate with your existing site's design. There are often plenty of "plug in" templates available to change the basic look and color combinations, but heavy customization would most likely require the services of a developer who is familiar with a particular package and could customize the look to suit your needs. All in all, having some sort of Shopping Cart software is advantageous if you are selling a large variety of products and shipping them – most of these packages can also integrate with FedEx, UPS, and USPS for your shipping needs.

There are many ways to accept credit cards on your website, and I've covered many of them here. Ultimately, the decision is yours. Take into account what you are selling, the prices of the products, how many sales you expect, and how good you are at web development.

That wraps up this overview. Thanks for reading, and I hope that you have gained enough basic knowledge to know what will – and will not – work for your business needs!

Why Exotic Pets Should Not Be Banned

We all know how special interest groups can blow things out of proportion – like the nonexistent “Exotic Pet Crisis.” If you listened to some animal rights groups, you’d think keeping exotic pets is cruel, dangerous, and even bordering on treason! Before you buy that agenda, consider that a junior high student once made a convincing case for banning dihydrogen monoxide: colorless, odorless, and tasteless, it kills thousands of people every year.

Most deaths are caused by inhalation, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Dihydrogen monoxide is also known as hydroxl acid, is the major component of acid rain, may cause severe burns, contributes to land erosion, may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes, and has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients.

This report was presented to 50 students, asking them what should be done about the chemical. 43 students favored banning it, 6 were undecided, and only one correctly recognized that ‘dihydrogen monoxide’ is actually H2O — plain old water. How gullible are you?

Banning my cat makes about as much sense as banning yours – and the results are just as heartbreaking for pet and owner. Are you ready for the truth about the “Exotic Pet Crisis?”

  • Exotic pets are not dangerous! One study showed that the risk of injury to exotic cat owners was less than the risk of injury due to a domestic dog bite. And every person who drives a motor vehicle subjects themselves and their family to a risk three times greater then does someone who owns even a large exotic cat such as a tiger.
  • Most exotic pet owners are kind, intelligent people who adore their animals and take excellent care of them. We love our pets just as you love yours.
  • Exotic animal bans result in beloved pets being confiscated, impounded, and usually killed. A lucky few live out their lives in cages under the care of strangers in zoos and sanctuaries. This is the dirty secret animal rights groups don’t want you to know. Banning does not help animals: it kills them!
  • Exotic cat ownership is already regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the U.S. Department of Interior, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, CITES, the Animal Welfare Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Lacey Act, more city, county, and state regulations than you can shake a stick at, as well as existing animal welfare and public safety laws that govern both exotic and domestic animals.
  • “You can buy a tiger on the Internet for $100.00,” research-averse activists proclaim in horror. Just try to order up a tiger online, or even a serval. You won’t succeed. This urban legend has great repeatability at cocktail parties and save-the-cute-animals-from-evil-humans fundraisers, but is severely lacking in the reality department. Breeders do have web sites, but it takes much more than a click of the mouse to purchase an exotic cat.

Hamster or Gerbil – Pros and Cons of Each

Having a hamster or gerbil as a pet can be a fun experience but, before you make a decision, you should learn more about the pros and cons of owning each animal.

Are These Animals Friendly?

Even though gerbils and hamsters are popular pet choices, the latter is not too fond of captivity. However, gerbils will make great pets as long as you buy more than one. Of course you have the option to purchase a single gerbil but since they are social animals you should purchase two so they can bond with each other.

If you do choose to purchase multiple hamsters and gerbils, it is a good idea to purchase two males. Female gerbils and female hamsters are aggressive with each other, but gerbil and hamster males get along well with one another. If you choose to buy a male and female gerbil or hamster, they should not be housed together, especially at a young age. You may also be interested to know that hamsters breed quickly.

Gerbils are ideal pets for children who have little or no experience caring for a small animal. This is due to the fact that gerbils are active throughout the day and rarely bite. Hamsters, however, do not like to be petted or held. Hamsters will bite when they are held or if they become irritated. And, although hamster bites do not cause serious danger, the bites are often painful. If you have young children, a hamster may not be the right pet choice for your family.

Inexpensive Maintenance

It is not expensive to purchase a hamster or gerbil, nor do you need a large budget to maintain them as pets. Most hamster cages come assembled, as well as any cage accessories you might want to purchase for your pet. Keeping a gerbil or hamster cage clean is also simple to do and it does not cost a lot of money. When purchasing a gerbil or hamster cage, you can spend as little as $50. Likewise, you may spend $50 a year on gerbil or hamster food, depending on the brand you purchase. When it pertains to these pets, their litter and bedding materials are the most expensive part of owning either of the two.

Sleeping Patterns

You should know the sleeping patterns of any pet before making a purchase. If you want to sleep well during the night, a hamster is not the right choice for you. Since hamsters are nocturnal, they will spend most of the day sleeping, and their nights will be spent playing with hamster toys or running on the hamster wheel inside their cage. Hamsters do not like to be woken up for any reason, even to play.

Gerbils are diurnal; therefore, they will not interrupt your sleep by digging or moving around in their cage. Gerbils like to play during the day, which can be fun for you and your children.

Escaping the Cage

Sometimes, regardless of how attentive you are, gerbils and hamsters escape their cages. When a hamster escapes his cage, he will be difficult to find and capture. You should know that hamsters enjoy chewing on furniture and wiring. So, if your pet hamster escapes his cage and he chews on the wires in your home, it could cause a house fire. Gerbils are also hard to find once they escape, which is why you must purchase an escape-proof cage for either of these little critters.

Remember that owning a gerbil or hamster will require some of your time, money, and patience. Overall, gerbils and hamsters can make great pets. But they are not the right choice for every pet owner which is why you should weigh the pros and cons before choosing one… or two in the case of gerbils… to bring home to meet the family!

5 Ways to Spot Fake Designer Clothing

1. All clothing fakes have low prices in comparison to genuine clothing. Before purchasing browse around and see the normal prices for designer clothing. For example, fake Prada Jackets are selling on eBay for less than £60! These are fake as Prada jackets can’t be bought (even direct from Prada) for anywhere near this amount. Outrageously low prices should make you cautious.

2. When buying clothing from a website, check the contact details and the terms & conditions. It is now a legal requirement for all websites to have full contact details (Address, Telephone, Email etc…). If there are no contact details just a form to fill in be cautious as they may be hard to trace if you are unsatisfied with your goods. I would also suggest avoiding eBay as this has a lot of fake designer clothing listed on the site from foreign sellers.

3. Once of the biggest giveaways of fake clothing is the material of the product. Nearly all fakes are cheaply made using low cost and inferior materials in comparison to genuine designer clothing. If possible examine the garment and if buying on line look in detail at large photographs of the product. Fake designer clothing the stitching is normally of poor quality and details such as the brand name on labels will be missing. Look closely at the fine details.

4. The majority of fakes are imported from cheap mass production countries such as China, Thailand, Japan (mostly Asia). Try and buy directly from the UK. Even though there are fake designer clothing sellers in the UK you are less likely to become a victim of illegal fake designer clothing by buying from the UK

5. Know your rights. In the UK if you unknowingly purchase fake designer clothing, through the ‘Distance Sellers Act’ you have 7 days to return the goods without penalty (full refund). Starting a Home-Based Internet Business

Whatever your background, your education, your previous employment, your gender or your life experience everyone starting a home-based internet business is beginning on a level playing field. Perhaps someone whose background is in some form of offline marketing has certain advantages because of their understanding of the marketing process but they will still have many new skills to acquire especially in respect of the technical side of the business.

There will be newcomers to the business whose background is in computer technology. They will have certain advantages with regard to the technical aspects of the business but will still have to learn about the marketing and copywriting side of things. There will be others who come from the retail trade. They will have useful experience when it comes to the actual selling but will find many new things that they need to learn to acquire a comprehensive picture of the whole business. Almost everyone will have some attributes which will help in the development of their business; experience or knowledge that they can bring to the table.

There are skills required to be successful in starting an online business; none of them is particularly difficult and all can be learnt. If you are prepared to put in the time and the effort to learn these skills then there is nothing to stop you being a successful online entrepreneur whatever your background. Many people attracted to the idea of starting a home-based online business back off when they come to realise how many new things they need to take on board. There is no need to fear! With internet marketing, if you follow the plan you will succeed.

If you can seek out a mentor, someone who has the knowledge and experience to guide you, someone who can show you how to start an online business, this will be of great benefit. If you can find someone who both’ talks the talk’ and ‘walks the walk’ you will find their support and advice immensely helpful. In the absence of such a person, the next best option is to subscribe to a quality online course, of which there are many. If you go down this particular route, however, choose the course with care. Before signing up to anything and making a financial commitment, do an internet search of the company or individual to whom you are thinking of subscribing. If there is anything shady about them or their course, a simple Google search will reveal this.

How long it takes to get your business up and running really doesn’t matter. We are all different, coming from different walks of life with different skill-sets and with different perspectives of exactly what we want to get from the business. When it comes to starting a home-based internet business, it takes as long as it takes! Some people set off like a railway train whilst others begin more slowly and tentatively. Work at your own pace and get it right. This is far preferable to rushing things and making costly mistakes in the process thus proving the old adage of “more haste, less speed”. I’m sure you all know the fable of “The Hare and the Tortoise”. Also remember the lyrics of the 1970s song by Cy Coleman and Dorothy Fields which says “It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish”. See you at the finishing line!
